Creativity in architecture doesn’t come in a moment of revelation. It comes instead by a team of experts grappling with the thousands of technical, structural and logistical decisions
involved in designing a building.
A case in point is Heatherwick Studio’s masterplan for London’s Olympia.
The studio has now published a technical case study of this £1.3bn redevelopment. Written by critic Rory Olcayto and richly illustrated, it describes how the studio’s designs for Olympia were rooted in our delivery expertise. The study can be downloaded below.
Co-designed with SPPARC, our scheme transformed the introverted exhibition venue into a 14-acre cultural district open to all. A new public street, Emberton Walk, was built on the shoulders of Olympia’s Grade I and II-listed exhibition halls. This ambitious architectural move required huge sensitivity to the heritage context. Across our plans for the site, rigorous analysis of engineering, fabrication and procurement went hand-in-hand with every design development.
