Heatherwick Studio and Bombay Sapphire are toasting to a decade-long partnership with the launch of bespoke, limited-edition glassware.

The gin and tonic drinking glasses, characterised by a pleated hourglass silhouette and striking blue base, are individually hand-blown in a celebration of artistry and craftsmanship.

The collaboration comes as Bombay Sapphire marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of the distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire. Designed by Heatherwick studio, the distillery, which opened in 2014, has become a cornerstone of both the gin brand’s heritage and the studio’s legacy of forward-looking design.

The glassware, handcrafted by UK glassblowers, draws inspiration from the Laverstoke Mill glasshouses. At the heart of the restored historic buildings, the new glasshouses act as a symbolic heart of the space and a home to the key botanicals used to make the Bombay Sapphire gin. Characterised by distinct glass ‘pleats’ the conservatories’ curved organic shapes are echoed in the new set of glasses and a decanter.

Thomas Heatherwick, founder of Heatherwick studio, said:

“Our team are always fascinated by craftsmanship, and the human response you have when you can feel that something has been made with love, care, and attention to detail. Glass blowing at its best has that unreal quality. That’s what I hope we manage with this latest collaboration.”

He said the collaboration was a chance to celebrate the studio’s special connection and history with Bombay Sapphire.

“Ten years ago, Bombay Sapphire presented us with an opportunity to design with sustainability in mind. We transformed the remains of an old paper mill into a distillery that places nature at its core. We tripled the width of the river running through the site and constructed two remarkable glasshouses that not only cultivate the botanical plant species that give the gin its unique flavour, but harness waste heat from the distillation process.”

Natasha Curtin, Global Vice President for Bombay Sapphire, said:

“At our distillery’s ten-year milestone, we’re incredibly proud to collaborate again with someone as esteemed in the design world as Thomas Heatherwick, the original designer of the Bombay Sapphire distillery.

“The distillery at the historic Laverstoke Mill is an iconic part of our heritage and where every drop of Bombay Sapphire is distilled. The gin and tonic glass pays tribute to the distillery and glasshouses that feature his signature design, and we’re delighted that gin lovers will now be able to experience the Bombay Sapphire and tonic in this very special piece of glassware.”
