A new series of Thomas Heatherwick’s BBC 4 documentary radio series, Building Soul, will begin on Monday 18th August 2025 at 9.30am BST.

The first series drew on the latest scientific research to explore how a century-long “global-blandemic” in the way we design buildings and cities has unwittingly caused sickness, loneliness, division and warming of our planet.

This time Thomas wants to uncover how architecture can find its soul again by bringing beauty, craft and joy back into urban life. Over three episodes, he speaks to some of the people planning, crafting, building and experiencing our cities to find answers.

Tune in to the first episode examining ‘Rational People Making Irrational Buildings’ now.

The second episode,‘Making Making Great Again’ will be released on 25th August 2025 at 9.30am BST.

The final part, ‘Public Service Architecture’, airs on 1st September 20205 at 9.30am BST. It will argue that public emotion, protest and media can drive radical change.
