In-Side
A collection of furniture in which plastic waste has been turned inside out, revealing its inner beauty. An armchair, a sofa and a low table, manufactured by Italian furniture brand Magis.
Design story
In-Side is a collaboration with Magis, the Italian furniture company who produced Heatherwick’s hugely popular Spun chair.
Magis had developed a new material that blended two recycled plastic materials: polyethylene powder, partly from consumer waste, and colourful post-industrial chips.
Heatherwick Studio discovered that when rotationally moulded, the outside of the material appeared conventional, but when cut open, it revealed a surprising inner interestingness.
Each piece of furniture is unique, as the configuration and colour of the flakes vary from piece to piece due to the fabrication process.
